I’m sure we’ve all seen those images on social media of these super cute succulent leaves with a tiny root sparking out. Succulents are a great plant for first time propagating. They are easy to care for and very easy to grow! We prepared a simple step by step guide to help you create lots of plant babies to fill your home!
Step 1
Depending on the type of succulent, you may choose to remove a leaf or take a cutting.
If you choose to remove the leaf, you will need to carefully twist the leaf off and make sure it’s a clean cut and nothing is left behind. Many sure this is done gently and don’t rush this.
If you choose to take a cutting, you will need to cut a few centimetres from the top and just above the leaf on the stem. Like twisting the leaf off, this will need to be a clean cut, so make sure you use a pair of sharp scissors.

Step 2
Your new cuttings will need to be placed in bright, indirect light to dry out for a day or two. You will know it’s ready when the cut has dried and scabbed over.
Step 3
The cutting ends can be put direly into the soil while leaves need to be placed on top of the soil lying flat. This is where patience is key. May sure to check the soil daily and, just like any other succulent, only water them when the soil is dry. You should see roots starting to sprout within a few weeks. Once this has happened, the cutting is ready to be potted.
