When clothes have a higher price tag, it generally speaks to a number of virtues—better quality materials, expert craftsmanship and elevated designs, which lead to more durable and investment-worthy pieces. Not always, of course, but expensive can often correlate with slow fashion, meaning a brand invests in local labour, or supports more sustainable and ethical practices both socially and environmentally. There’s a reason that “fast fashion” is so fast and cheap, after all.

As prices climb and the cost of living gets harder to bear, though, one of the first things to go is the luxury of purchasing high-quality clothing designed by reputable brands. For many, certain clothing brands and shops have simply become out of reach. But as much as possible, money shouldn’t have to be a complete and utter barrier to buying from good brands and investing in the local economy, as well as enjoying some new, and probably much needed, casual wear for the season.

To make your life easier and your budget more manageable, Vogue has collated a list of affordable Australian fashion brands to shop for casual wear. From local, coastal-inspired boutiques to eclectic streetwear studios and brands for all your elevated basics, these are the places to shop mid-range this season, and all year round. While some of these brands start at lower price points or frequently run sales, higher-priced garments can still be found at quality stores. This list features a range of estimated prices that are ideal for those looking to shop in the more accessible middle.

Ahead, find the best Australian women’s clothing brands that offer stylish pieces at affordable prices.

Vogue’s top picks

What to look for in an affordable fashion brand

Not sure what to look for? Start by researching brands’ ethical manufacturing certifications to support those who take social and environmental responsibility. Then, check out the brand’s size range to see if the clothes meet your needs, as well as their return policy in case they don’t. Natural fibres over synthetic ones will give you more bang for your buck with better wear and less tear. Now, fill those gaps in your closet with versatile designs or bold statement pieces that mesh with your personal style, and you should be left with a wardrobe to flaunt for many years to come.

Is it possible to balance a tight budget with eco-friendly choices?

Editor tip: While purchasing eco-friendly choices on a budget may limit the amount of clothing you’re able to afford, ethos and quality are prudent investments. Besides, the most environmentally friendly thing you can do is to minimise your consumption. However, if you are in dire need of variety, shopping secondhand is an excellent way to extend a garment’s lifespan—thrifting supports a good cause, for a good deal, too.

Ginia’s overall style is best described as fluid and sophisticated, focusing on classic pieces that transcend trends to create a timeless wardrobe.

Customer experience: “This slip is gorgeous and looks even better in person. It’s a subtle colour that’s not see through and definitely wearable as a dress (obviously it’s thin so you may want shapewear if you’re used to a lining),” writes a reviewer of the brand’s Day to Night Slip. FAQs

To answer all your queries about shopping affordable fashion and the best Australian clothes brands to find stylish, accessible garments, we turned to expert Nicole Adolphe, head of style at The Iconic.

What should you look out for when shopping affordable fashion?

“Start looking for classic styles and timeless basics that can easily step into your wardrobe rotation,” Adolphe advises. “If shopping online, make sure to research the fabric of the item you are wanting to see what the quality is to ensure it will feel elevated even if it’s a lower price point. For instance, is it genuine leather or PU? Is it a wool jumper or labelled as a knit fabrication? Colour plays a big part when shopping for affordable styles but still wanting an expensive look. Black and neutral colours such as tan, cream and khaki look more polished than pastels or bright colours.”

How can you prioritise affordability without compromising quality or sustainability?

“Find out a bit about the brand you are purchasing, there’s usually a short write up in the product description to see if it fits with your values. Affordability can be subjective. It may refer to the actual cost of the piece or the cost per wear and the longevity of the garment. In some instances, you might want to spend more to get a better quality fabrication that will last longer,” says Adolphe. “Another way to shop designer affordably is to wish list and follow brands you know will usually create good quality pieces and watch out for when they go on sale.”

In terms of fabric, the clothing label found inside the garment will tell you what you need to know. 100 per cent, or if not, a high percentage of natural fibres like wool or cotton are tell-tale signs of high quality. But keep in mind that synthetics are often necessary in athletic wear, windproof, and waterproof clothing. Tight stitching along hems and seams ensures that the garment won’t fall apart or snag as easily. The closer together, the better.

What are the best affordable Australian brands to shop in 2026?

“Expect to find wardrobe staples and seasonal key pieces from Aere, high quality minimalist pieces from Minima Esenciales, stunning tailored pieces from Mossman, winter essentials from Staple The Label, Sovere, Assembly Label, Ena Pelly, Elka Collective, Blanca and Morrison,” says Adolphe. “For that special dress or outfit that won’t break the bank, Australian dress labels I’d look at are Significant Other, By Johnny, Shona Joy, Lover, Third Form and Hansen & Gretel.”

Which affordable labels nail fit and longevity for everyday essentials?

With the brands included in this list, you could shop eyes closed and still emerge with a cart full of classics. These brands design high-quality collections for casual wear that you can dress up or down. All you need to do is grab them, and go about your day looking put together and polished—just lean back and let these labels do the work for you.
